Believe Thyself IV - Banners Flying High

In the Biblical and medieval times, armies upheld banners when going into battle. This practice served as identification from their enemies, and a physical display of their faith in their identity, nobility or kingdom.

A banner flying high was a strategic display of dominance and authority over the battle. By the mere sight of some banners, opposing armies felt intimidated and trembled in fear, called a truce or simply fled from the battle grounds.

However if a battle ensued as intended, a high flying banner was the only indicator of victory. Exhausted soldiers were renewed with strength when they saw their source of hope and purpose for fighting.

As believers, we automatically carry the banner of God, His Spirit. It represents His very name Jehovah Nissi, His character, power, and authority here on Earth and in the Heavens. It also serves as an identification and reminder that we are Children of God.

We never walk alone.

His presence serves as a constant reminder that He will give us victory in every battle we put before Him. He has sworn to war with anything that stands against us. Thus the victory ultimately belongs to Him.

Unfortunately, we sometimes get so caught up in the depth of our personal battles forgetting the victory has already been won. It is human nature to evaluate a situation based on our intelligence, resources, and might.

When we relinquish control of our situation and practice an act of faith by waiting on Him, it is pleasing to the Lord. He then takes authority over the battle and rewards us with victory.

Lord, help us fully trust in You alone.

What battle are you fighting in your life today that shakes your belief in the Lord?

Is there anything too hard for Him?

Till we meet again,

Keep the crowns upright,

and your banners flying high.
