Believe Thyself Finale- In the Waiting
There are many voices in our heads…
We hear them all the time, speaking many lies and assumptions like, “You are a failure”, “You will never make it in life”, “Just kill yourself already!”, “You are too old”, “You will never get well”, “You do not deserve this”, “You are not worthy of God’s love…”
These voices constantly plague our peace of mind, even when we are surrounded by believers, family, and loved ones, or when we are alone in the shower, praying, and worshipping.
At times, these voices can get so intrusive that we can wake up in the middle of the night, panicking, and wishing to end it all.
Although we cannot arguably prove where these voices are from, we do know that they influence our thoughts, actions and behaviors.
What I have observed is that these voices resound the loudest when we are in a season of waiting; a period of time between God’s promised blessings and the fulfillment of them.
In my season of waiting, I declared that Jehovah was my Banner so I am passing my Medical School Licensing exams by faith. Yet in the loneliness of the night, I would wake up panicking, because voices in my head constantly reminded me that I will fail and become a disgrace to my family, the church and ultimately to God.
These voices make waiting on the Lord very tough! Fear plagues our minds when the voices go contrary to promises we have received from the Lord. Nonetheless, it is very essential for our spiritual growth as believers to know that waiting has a purpose.
Waiting is a test of our faith.
Without Faith, it is impossible to please our Father. After reading the promises and the fulfillment of the word of God in the people of old, it is our duty to believe that the same God that did it for Abraham, Hannah, Esther and Ruth, will fulfill His word to us as well.
Hence it is of utmost importance to constantly immerse ourselves in the word of God. This helps us detect the voices that aren't His and rebuke them in the name of Jesus. Then, begin to meditate on His promises that are good and prosperous. Remember He has given us all authority. Utilize it!
Waiting builds character.
We are all not perfect but we strive daily to live like Christ. Therefore when we make mistakes and fall short of the glory of God, He uses these shortcomings to build resilience in us. In the midst of waiting, our father prepares us spiritually, mentally and emotionally for the next hurdle ahead of us.
In your season of waiting, ask the Lord, “What do you need me to learn in this season that will prepare me for the next?”. We will be amazed at what His Spirit reveals to us about our character and our heart posture. I learned that I still have a lot of faith and self control to develop in my season of waiting.
Are you in a season of waiting? And what are you learning about your character?
Remember, His plans are not to harm us, but to give us hope and a future. Stay close to Him in the waiting, and your strength will surely be renewed.
Till we meet again,
Keep the crowns upright,
and your faith strengthened!
