Value Thyself III- Something More than Gold

I recently visited my motherland, Ghana over the holidays… and all I could exclaim as I passed through familiar streets was WOW!

From the magnificence of the modern high rise buildings to the reeking stench of the choking gutters, I felt a sense of peace and belonging… I was home!

Although I was used to the luxury of ease of life, the impeccable customer service and the time conscious nature of most Americans, my experience was blissful and enlightening.

At the end of my stay, as I embraced my loved ones at the airport, I knew a big chunk of my heart would be buried here. Then I wondered to myself, “I am leaving a relatively poor country to a place flowing with milk and honey! Why am I grieving my departure?”

It was then that I gained perspective! Just as a piece of my heart was left in my motherland Ghana, a piece of God’s Spirit is inside of us.

Hence no matter how much wealth and success I accrued in the States, my heart will still crave to be home. Likewise, our Spirit which is a part of God will still crave to be home with Him so it can be whole again, no matter how good life here on Earth is.

In the last blog, we learned that God is a Spirit and a piece of Him is buried deep inside of us from creation. This makes us His most valuable possession in his grand Universe. We also learned that the piece of Him inside of us, is where we find value, not our Earthly bodily shells nor the possession we accrue over our lifetime.

Now this very Spirit inside of us is ALIVE! It thinks, it feels, it loves, and most importantly communicates not only with us but with its Father, who is God.

Our spirit communicates with a deep craving and emptiness we experience physically as the NEED to be LOVED; to belong, to be accepted,  to be appreciated, to be provided for…

It can take me forever to list how craving love feels because it is a never ending cycle of trying to fulfill our needs so we can feel content. Sadly, we fail to realize that physical possessions do not fill the need of our Spirit because we are not physical beings only!

We are Spiritual beings, in a physical body, having a personalized experience.

The Spirit inside of us, which is a part of God, longs and craves to be with the Father, who is the giver of  Love, since they are ONE! (John 10:30)

The good news is only a relationship with an Eternal God, who places that need in your heart to love and be loved, will quench the need of the Spirit, and cause an overflow of love  into our physical existence. God loves us so much that He will do absolutely anything to  reunite with us, including die for us. He is dying to meet us! Pun intended : )

Our value to God is definitely worth something more than gold… and this makes us so valuable!

In the next blog we will be diving deeper into the purpose of this Spirit in our lives. Stay tuned!

Till we meet again,

Keep the crowns upright!
