Value Thyself II-A diamond is a diamond is a diamond

A diamond is a diamond is a diamond…

The first time I heard this statement, I wondered why emphasis was placed on a diamond being a diamond.

Obviously If a diamond is a diamond, it will stay a diamond. No need to elaborate on it being a diamond.

Soon enough, I experienced one of those rock bottom phases! no pun intended : ) …and the phrase made perfect sense.

A diamond is a diamond is a diamond…

A monotous yet simple reminder that a diamond is still a diamond, even if it is coated in gold, buried in trash, or broken into a million pieces.

Why?

It is because diamonds have intrinsic value.

They are rare, naturally occurring, minerals known to be the hardest, and least compressible minerals on Earth. Its high index of fraction, high dispersion of light among numerous qualities make it one of the most sought after gemstones till date.  After humans realized how rare and invaluable diamonds are, along came its exorbitant price.

Nonetheless, diamonds were intrinsically valuable before man ever discovered it.

The good news is that we are worth so much more than diamonds, more than anything on this Earth. We are our most valuable possession because we are made in the image and likeness of God, who is a Spirit.

Spirit is defined as the non-physical part of a person that gives life. It is the invisible part of a person enclosed in ‘skin, water and bones’. The supernatural essence of ourselves that gives us the ability to be. For example, if I have an expensive perfume, the value of the perfume is not in the packaging, it’s in the fragrance enclosed in the package.

Likewise, our value is not found on a superficial surface like color of our skin, texture of our hair or the clothes we wear. Neither is it obtained from the possession, status, or successes we accrue in this lifetime.

Our value is intrinsic; it is the Spirit inside of us, God’s very own Spirit that he breathed freely into us. We literally have God inside of us, and this is why we are His most precious creation.

You are valuable not because of what you do, but because of who YOU are.

This truth always snaps me out of a difficult stage in life, because in whatever state I am, I am loved. Loved not because of what I do, what I wear, or what I accomplish. I am loved just because my intrinsic nature, my spirit, is the embodiment of love.

You may be wondering how the Spirit of God is the embodiment of love. I will need forever to talk about this!

But the next blog may suffice. Stay tuned.

Till we meet again,

Keep the crowns upright.
